June 30, 2009-Tunisia will host an international conference on the role of Arab women in promoting ICT. The conference which is placed under the patronage of First lady Mrs Leila Ben Ali the president of the Arab Women Organization and is organized by the Arab ICT Organisation (AICTO), the Ministry of Women’s Affairs, family, childhood, and the elderly, as well as the university of la Manouba, will be held on July 2, 2009 on the theme “Arab Woman: A basic pillar for the information society” at the “Kubbat Ennhass” at la Manouba near Tunis.

Several experts from Europe and the Arab world will take part in the event which will include various panels and a roundtable on the role of women in building the information society.

The conference is expected to review the current state of affairs relative to the setting up of an information society in the Arab world, as well as bridging the gender digital gap, in compliance with the “Tunis Commitment” of the World Summit on the information Society (WSIS) which was held in Tunis in 2005.

Among its various objectives, AICTO aims at promoting ICT in the Arab region by setting up mechanisms to enable a larger participation of women in developing ICT and throwing the foundations of the information society
