Nawras CEO to Address Global Broadband Summit on 3G+ Success

In recognition of the leading role Nawras has taken in the provision of 3G+ services for its customers in the Sultanate of Oman, CEO Ross Cormack will be addressing the upcoming Broadband Global Summit in Dubai on 10 and 11 March 2009.

His opening keynote presentation is entitled ‘Delivering Broadband in the Sultanate of Oman’.

The conference aims to share the experience of those companies demonstrating a successful track record in the latest generation mobile services as well as to explore the future of fixed and mobile broadband in the region.

Nawras launched one of the first 3G HSPA networks in the GCC as a trial in 2006, following up with the commercial launch in 2007. To-date it is still the only commercially available third generation network in the Sultanate.

“This full 7.2MHz HSPA service is called 3G+ because it is much more than the normal 3G found in many countries in Europe”, Cormack explained. “Nawras is careful not to over-promise and so far has conservatively communicated available speeds of up to 1 Mb per second, with even higher speeds for customers choosing the Platinum price plan.”

Last year, to maximise the available capacity and customer experiences Nawras even introduced 14.4 MHz functionality in hot spots across the network.

A rapid roll-out has given nearly 40% of the population the superior speed and quality of 3G+. While the launch concentrated on covering all the major metropolitan areas of the Sultanate, Nawras has now branched out much further afield. Recent new 3G+ sites are operating in Qurayiat, Saham, Khabourah, Shinas, Buraymi, Wasta and Masirah as well as popular locations between Muscat and Suwaiq.

Speaking at the only dedicated broadband event in the Middle East, the Nawras CEO will join other key industry leaders including the CEOs of Du, Roshan and Wana as well as the senior vice president of sister company Starhub in Singapore and the chief strategy officer and secretary general of Jordan Telcom Group.
