Arab Business Forum for ICT (ABFICT)
Establishment
The Arab Business forum for Information and Communication Technology ABFICT was established when representatives of more than eighty leading companies in the fields of communications & information technology met in Cairo on the 14th of January 2002.
All participants shared a strong belief in the positive impact of communications & information technology on the Arab World’s development and economy. They highlighted decisions of the Arab League Summit held in Amman, Jordan in March 2001 stressing the importance of enhancing the capabilities of the Arab World in the field of communications and information technology. The establishment of ABFICT was later endorsed by the Arab League Summit held in Beirut, Lebanon in March 2002.
Objectives
1. Establish strong Arab co-operation channels for promoting Arab products and services in the fields of Communications and Information Technology both within and outside the Arab World.
2. Formulate the view of the Arab Business Sectors by preparing working papers that address issues of concern in the fields of communications and information technology and recommend action plans.
3. Maintain an active and effective role in representing the Arab communications & information industries in the international arena.
4. Create channels between the private sector and governmental sectors throughout the Arab World.
Executive Committee
ABFICT Executive Committee consists of six members representing Egypt, Kuwait, Palestine and United Arab Emirates. Number of Executive committee members will be increased to a maximum of twelve members representing different Arab States including Work Group Leaders.
