PICTAs were developed to help Lebanese youth and communities overcome the devastating effects of conflict, develop new competencies in the ICT arena. So far, PICTA academies have been established in nine cities around Lebanon. Each center is designed to help local community members use computer technology and the Internet to connect with loved ones in Lebanon and around the world, train young people to develop their ICT skills and thus open up potential job prospects, and to enhance the lives of whole communities through access to the latest communications technology. The academies have been developed in association with Intel, Cisco, Microsoft, the International Executive Service Corps, and Mercy Corps. Access to the centers is free, and certificates are provided to graduates.
