Al Rousan presents Jordan as an “Outsourcing” destination in
int@j’s Power Breakfast

Under the patronage of H.E. Eng. Bassem Al Rousan, Minister of Information and Communications Technology, the Information Technology Association of Jordan (int@j), and with the support of The United States Agency for International Development through the Sustainable Achievement of Business Expansion and Quality Program (SABEQ) held int@j’s monthly power breakfast, themed as “Outsourcing in Jordan”, which was followed with a press conference, held in the Grand Hyatt on Tuesday May 27th, 2008.

 During the breakfast, H.E. Eng. Al Rousan briefed his audience about “DataMonitor” Report’s findings which positioned Jordan well to recoup contact center investment from near shore and offshore clients.
 H.E. Eng. Al Rousan stressed on the fact that such success in the sector came as a result of the effective public private partnerships.
 Chairman of int@j, Mr. Marwan Juma expressed: “Today’s meeting comes as a major step towards implementing a couple of the most important initiatives of the National ICT Strategy that aim at increasing the sector’s revenues up to USD 3 billion and raising the sector’s employment to reach 35.000 jobs by the year 2012.”
 Juma continues: “Jordan is considered to be a unique spot that enjoys exceptional qualities making it one of the finest countries suitable for outsourcing and call centers, thus providing numerous opportunities for job seekers”.
 USAID Jordan Mission Director, Mr. Jay Knott said; “The Information Communication and Technology (ICT) sector plays a critical role in Jordan’s economy because of its rapid growth and steady advancements over the past several years. Today, ICT is changing the world and we must continue to compete and to be more competitive, decrease costs of communication services and reduce barriers to entry and expansion, in order to succeed”
 
 On his part, USAID Jordan Economic Development Program (SABEQ) Enhanced Productivity Component Leader Mr. Laith Al-Qasem said: “In collaboration with the Ministry of Information Communication and Technology (MoICT), the USAID Jordan Economic Development Program SABEQ, is in the process of initiating a Call Center Training Program (CCTP) as a first step towards the objective of bringing Jordan on globalization platform” “We at USAID/SABEQ are pleased to support such initiatives taken by the Minister of Information and Communication Technology and will continue to encourage and support further initiatives that will result in the development of a sustainable and self-reliant economy” he added: “The aforementioned initiative along with the DATAMONITOR report are considered as base foundation for the outsourcing industry in Jordan”.

 The Power Breakfast meeting tackled various topics, including DataMonitor Report, Call Center Training Program Initiative, in addition to the Jordan Telecom Group’s Contribution for Outsourcing and Call Centers, a thing that is believed to boost the Jordanian ICT Sector through opening new channels of communications, leading to new markets in the region and internationally as well.
