Jordan's regulator, the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (TRC,) is in talks with four local mobile operators about conditions for using 3G service, according to local daily Al Rai. The newspaper said the government may opt to invite foreign mobile operators if an agreement cannot be reached. The foreign firms will have to implement the project to fulfill its promise of introducing the technology before the end of the year, the paper reports citing people familiar with the matter. The move comes after the TRC canceled early last month a tender aimed at introducing 3G services because the only bidder, Orange Jordan, couldn't meet the required conditions. Other mobile operators in Jordan are Umniah and Zain.
