IT Association of Jordan and Ministry of ICT announce 2009 ICT and ITES industry statistics

In his speech, Chairman of int@j, Mr. Ayman Mazahreh, indicated that int@j is working closely with the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology to conduct the ICT and ITES industry classification and statistics on annually based on UN and OECD definition of the ICT and ITES sector and classification based on ISIC 4.0 to capture the true size and players in the sector in order to reflect the high value the sector brings to the country.
H.E. Marwan Juma, Minister of ICT also indicated the need for the private sector to fully respond to the ICT and ITES industry classification and statistics survey annually to highlight the partnership between public and private sector with ICT contributing approximately 14% to the GDP. H.E. Juma also highlighted the major efforts MoICT is taking to overcome major sector issues in exports income tax, and customs, and implementing sector support programs such as the Graduates Internship Program.
The survey for 2009 was conducted jointly by int@j and MoICT, and was launched in March 2010 and completed in June 2010, and it was based on the International Standard Industrial Classification - ISIC version 4.0 in cooperation with USAID Jordan Economic Development Program - SABEQ and focused on ICT and IT Enabled Services (ITES) activities according to ISIC definition, hence the 2009 survey targeted the whole ICT and ITES Sector in Jordan. The survey was designed and conducted electronically through a web enabled solution to provide information on ICT and ITES revenue (domestic and export), ICT and ITES export markets, ICT and ITES employment, and ICT and ITES investments.
The 2009 ICT and ITES Industry statistics survey targeted approximately 488 companies, of which 24 companies where filtered out as non-ICT and ITES companies, resulting in 464 companies who actually participated in the survey, 22 companies of which declared themselves as non-ICT and ITES, resulting in 442 companies who are part of the ICT and ITES sector, 257 companies responded fully electronically, and 185 responded to limited questions by phone indicating their activities and employment.
