CMMI and SPOT Certification in Jordan
16/08/2011

Eight IT and Outsourcing companies acquire CMMI and SPOT certification to enhance exports and provide quality jobs

Article

Eight IT and Outsourcing companies in Jordan acquired the Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) and the Single Point of Truth (SPOT) Certification which optimizes exports of IT products and services to the world.  Under the patronage of His Excellency Eng. Atef Al Tal a graduation ceremony for the eight firms was held today at the Intercontinental Hotel attended by Ministry officials, Information and Communications Technology Association of Jordan - int@j, USAID Jordan representatives, and the IT  and Outsourcing community in Jordan.
Encouraging economic development in this vital sector, USAID Jordan Economic Development Program supported int@j to facilitate and provide (CMMI) and SPOT certification for IT and Outsourcing companies.  The process is an overall improvement approach that provides organizations with the essential elements of effective processes. It can be used to guide process improvement across a project, a division, or an entire organization. Both certifications help integrate traditionally separate organizational functions, set process improvement goals and priorities, provide guidance for quality processes, and provide a point of reference for appraising current processes.

“CMMI® is currently considered the most widely accepted and adopted process improvement approach worldwide, and having Jordanian companies certified in this area further highlights our Industry and Country presence on the regional and global map. Furthermore, it was a collective effort between the USAID Jordan Economic Development Program, QAI, the CMMI certified companies, namely Optimiza, Eskadenia, STS, Estarta, CNS, and ATS, and the ICT and BPO Associations of Jordan - int@j, we all worked hand in hand over the past 18 months to achieve this success today, and we are proud of it,” said Mr Mohammad Tahboub, Chairman, Int@j. "Spot is delighted to announce the progress in the ITES sector in Jordan as Extensya and CrysTelCall continue their journey towards World Class Standards. Although the journey does not stop here, Tier 2 certification is an important milestone.  A milestone worthy of congratulations and celebration," said Mr Alton Martin, CEO, Spot
The graduation ceremony celebrated the successful completion of 18 months work conducted by the eight companies (6 IT and 2 Outsourcing), as they were awarded these international certificates for the first time in Jordan. The event will set a milestone for new export markets, revenues and more jobs for Jordanians based on the new skill sets and recognition awarded for these Jordanian companies.
Representing the USAID Jordan, Dr. Ruba Jaradat commended the trend to provide better regional and global visibility.  “Certifications such as these are the linchpin in a larger strategy of empowering Jordanian companies to take advantage of the vast opportunities that are emerging within the Middle East and North African markets.  These and other accomplishments are not realized by USAID alone, however, as our strong partnership with government and close relationship with the private sector are at the core of our strategy.”
The USAID Jordan Economic Development Program is a five year economic development initiative implemented by Deloitte Consulting LLP and a sizeable team of international and Jordanian partner firms. The Program’s mission is to support sectors and activities in alignment with His Majesty King Abdullah’s vision for a Knowledge-based Economy, by inserting Jordanian enterprises into global value chains, promoting investment, and improving the enabling environment to generate value added jobs, exports, foreign direct investment, and sector revenues as a powerful engine of economic growth.
The Information and Communications Technology Association of Jordan is an ICT and ICTES industry-support association founded in 2000 with the aim of improving the dynamics of Jordan's ICT & ICTES markets and developing the Kingdom's ICT & ICTES related activities, and includes more than 210 local and global companies working in IT, Telecom, Online and Mobile Content and Applications, and IT enabled services (Outsourcing). Since its establishment, Int@j has been exerting a high effort level aiming at advancing the Jordanian ICT & ICTES sector. Int@j has been looking for various partnerships with different institutions on the local, regional and international levels aiming at creating better ICT and ICTES industry in Jordan, increasing the awareness of ICT and ICTES services and products and stressing on the benefits of integrating ICT and ICTES in other sectors.
