AMMAN -- The National Payment Council has decided to postpone the launch of the payment system via mobile phones to March 1st, 2014, according to the Central Bank of Jordan ( CBJ ) statement issued on Saturday.
The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by CBJ Governor Ziad Fariz.
According to the statement, the decision was taken to give companies additional time to get ready, test their systems and make sure they are in conformity with national requirements. The mobile-telephone payment system was supposed to begin on January 1, 2014.
